Some people seem to have everything under control, even in situations that most struggle with every day. There is no proven formula for success, but by looking at and studying successful people and influential top performers, a pattern of habits emerges.

THEY PLAN AND FOLLOW THROUGH

Many people try to plan their days and weeks in line with their ambitions, but the main difference between successful and unsuccessful people is that those who succeed with follow-through. Successful people create a specific plan and make it a point to follow it and act accordingly so that each action moves them closer to their end goal.

Follow successful people’s footsteps by setting attainable goals and focusing your efforts on achieving them. Your long-term goals can be more ambitious, but make sure your short-term goals are helping you get there or you run the risk of splitting your focus among too many disparate objectives.

THEY READ BETTER CONTENT

To paraphrase the old adage, a man who does not read often has no advantage over those who cannot read. Some people misunderstand this advice and read things only related to entertainment and pop culture, neither of which can truly enrich your life nor help you to be a better employer, employee, or person. Check out Bill Gates’ summer reading list for books that has a good dose of science and math at their core.

The most successful people read in order to obtain new information and acquire knowledge on an array of subjects. Take some time out of your day to read something interesting and you will have a greater wealth of knowledge to pull from which will benefit you immensely.”

THEY LIVE WITHIN THEIR MEANS

The most successful people do not feel the need to flaunt their riches or impress their neighbors. They do not have to feed their ego because they are financially savvy and make intelligent decisions with their money. Here’s how they live within their means:

  • Regardless of how much they earn, they spend no more than 25% on housing and 15% on food.
  • Successful people also save a larger percentage of their income for an emergency fund and cut back on spending for entertainment.

Success is more about what you are ready to do every day, and the habits you form, which become an important part of your character. The good news is that you can start working toward making positive changes by adopting these habits in your daily routine. Don’t forget to check out some of our other recent blog posts.
