SEMINAR ABSTRACTS:

Power of Place

Presented by David Haskin, Steelcase

The key to employee engagement is bringing people together with a sense of purpose in a place that will help them achieve their best work. The notion of place often goes overlooked, but when the workplace is designed to be a destination there are substantial gains in engagement and productivity to be had. To achieve this a workplace must be not just a location to do work, but a place that balances collaboration with privacy, fosterscognitive, emotional, and physical wellbeing and offers choice and control.

Lighting for Commercial Office Spaces

Presented by Tracy Debevits, GE Lightening

While lighting is a small percentage of overall office costs including people and property, it has a significant impact on the operational value of the space and its occupants. Quality lighting designs take into account three main areas: (1) Human Factors, (2) Economics, (3) Architecture/Site-Related Issues. Understanding the task needs and illuminance criteria recommended, while balancing energy efficiency, sustainability, and new technology, presents design challenges. This seminar will examine updated illuminance criteria, advances in lighting technology, and knowledge of human factors within the office environment.

Colormix 2015

This course will take the participant on a visual journey with stimulating imagery, factual statistics and perceptive research that supports the 2015 forecast for color and design trends.
